Taiwan has a highly developed and well maintained freeway network, consisting of National Freeways 1 and 3 go across the main island and various local highways and roads. With this network, from city to town, visitors can freely explore. Renting a car is a great option for those wanting more flexibility while traveling.

Renting a car is fairly easy in Taiwan. Car rentals can be found by the major airports and train stations. In larger cities, such companies are not few. Together they offer a vast range of vehicles for customers to choose from, and one can thus be assured with a relaxing and fun car trip. Most companies give special discounts, too, and the client may get the car in place A and return it in place B, with a small extra fee. Please ask the company if the rent includes insurance and if there is anything additional to be paid.

Visitors not familiar with the roads in Taiwan may consider renting a car and hiring a driver at once. At international-level hotels, you may even ask the hotel staff to help find a rental. For those only needing an airport pick-up or a few hours' drive, rental services provided by a hotel may be a more convenient and economical choice.

Driving and Laws

In Taiwan, all cars must drive on the right side of a road. Both the driver and passengers must fasten their seatbelts. If you plan to take a car trip in Taiwan, please check our traffic rules first and get a valid international driver's license before hitting the road.
